Coast redwood is the tree of these mountains, and a young one makes a striking Christmas tree. The foliage is flat and feathery, in sprays of soft green needles, and the scent is light and woody.
Like Sierra redwood, it drinks a lot and dries faster than firs, so keep the stand full and set it up a bit later in the season if you can. The branches are soft, so lighter ornaments look best.
Farms that grow coast redwood
Selection changes every season, so check with the farm before you go.
Compared with other trees
- Sierra redwood (giant sequoia): Sierra redwood has scaly foliage and a tighter cone shape.
